- What is the Vic & Oby scholarship?
The Vic and Oby Scholarship is a scholarship fund sponsored by The Law Office of Ral Obioha, PLLC, a primarily immigration law firm owned by Immigration Attorney Ral Obioha, who is a child of immigrants. The scholarship fund is an as an Ode to her late parents, Engr. and Mrs. Victor and Oby Nwankwo, who had the foresight to settle her in the United States, and who continue to serve as inspiration. Under the Vic & Oby Scholarship fund, The Law Office of Ral Obioha, PLLC provides financial awards to low-income immigrant college and graduate students who live and/or attend school in any state in the United States. We provide an annual scholarship of up to $5,000 to cover tuition and other expenses for selected college, graduate and/or law school students.

- Who can complete the Counselor’s Certification section of the application form?
You can have an advisor, professor, or records office staff member from your most recent degree program complete the Counselor’s Certification section. This can be done electronically.
- Can I provide any substitute for completing the Counselor’s Certification section of the application form?
Yes, in place of completing the Counselor’s Certification section of the application form, you may submit a recommendation letter.
- Does the signature in the Counselor’s Certification section of the application form have to be original?
No, electronic signatures are accepted.
- Does the Applicant’s signature on the application form have to be original?
No, electronic signatures are accepted.
- What If I never took the ACT or SAT?
A GPA will suffice. You can leave the section for ACT score blank.
- What if my school does not provide ranking?

- How early can I apply for the scholarship?
The application window for the Vic & Oby scholarship opens on March 29th.
- When is the deadline to submit my application?
The deadline to submit your application is July 15th.
- When should I expect a decision on my application?
A final decision will be made based on scholarship, achievement, and need. The recipient will be notified before the end of August. In August, the award checks will be issued, made payable to, and mailed to the recipients’ indicated college, university or institution for his or her use.
14. How do I receive my scholarship funds?
An awarded scholarship is paid directly to the college or university you designate – you don’t need to worry about coordinating or transferring any funds.
- Can I qualify for this scholarship if I took a break from school?
Yes. This scholarship is open to anyone attending any accredited college, university, or institution, regardless of age or time off.
16. Can I still apply for The Vic & Oby scholarship, if my parents are immigrants and I am not an immigrant?
Yes, you may apply for the Vic & Oby scholarship, if you are a child of foreign-born immigrants.
- Do non-law related graduate students qualify for The Vic & Oby scholarship?
Yes, the Vic & Oby scholarship is open to all undergraduate and graduate students who meet all the requirements.
18. Do I qualify for the scholarship if only one parent is foreign-born?
Yes, you are eligible to The Vic & Oby scholarship fund based on one of your parents being foreign-born.
19. My immigration/citizenship status is complicated. Can I still qualify?
Yes, you still qualify. In fact, the Vic & Oby scholarship is intended for immigrants and their families.
- I am currently undocumented. Can I still qualify?
Yes, you still qualify. In fact, the Vic & Oby scholarship is intended for immigrants and their families.
- Is an acceptance letter required for all applicants?
No. An acceptance letter, from an accredited college, university, graduate school, medical school or law school within the United States, is only required if you will be a freshman in the upcoming school year.
- Is my school ID acceptable as Proof of Identity?
No. The following documents are acceptable identification documents: birth certificate, passport, permanent resident card, unexpired and valid I-94, and last-issued visa. School IDs are not acceptable for this purpose.
- What are the requirements for my Personal Statement?
The Personal statement should discuss the positive values the Applicant has drawn from being an immigrant in the U.S. and how the Applicant intends to use those values to create a better life for themselves and/or their family.
The Personal Statement should be typed, 1-2 pages, double-spaced, in 1” by 1” document margins, and have a 12-point font size.
